NewsLongBeach: Re-Imagining School Discipline

Nov. 8, 2013 / By

The Long Beach Unified School District recently passed a resolution regarding school discipline policies. The school board urges “careful monitoring to prevent a disproportinate share of suspensions from occurring at a given school campus or with demographic subgroups of students and it urges schools to build upon existing efforts to provide alternatives.”

There has been a campaign underway in Long Beach and statewide to reform school discipline policies. NewsLongBeach discussed the campaign, every student matters, with Walter Brown, a youth organizer with Centro CHA and Robert Howard, a Restorative Justice specialist at Reid High School.
